URBAN PERSPECTIVE / CHICAGO CITY CONTEXT
SUPERBLOCK STUDIO
Master of Architecture / ‘18
Professor: Maged Guerguis
The superblock studio investigates alternatives for large scale urban projects as alternatives to the skyscraper archetype. As a host for creative disciplines, the superblock is interested in creating interdisciplinary experiences that thrive off the programmatic functions of culture, living, and making. We acted as programmers first,
shaping and arranging the complex program of the institute based on our own interpretation of how a “SuperBlock” could interact with our site. As a datum for the city of Chicago, our site at Wolf Point welcomes
a new caliber of architecture school and creative hub, the Architecture Institute of Chicago, interested in a connection with an external urban fabric as well as an internal urbanism that orchestrates the experience on the scale of a city block.
